Annual Events in Monchique
March (first weekend):
Feira dos Enchidos Tradicionais (the fair of traditional cured sausages). Sausages made to trditional recipes from black pig. Other local produce is available together with craftwork and traditional music.
May or June:
Baja Serra de Monchique -the Algarve Automobile Club organises the annual 4×4 competition
July (last Sunday):
A fair with local produce and craftwork in Marmelete. Various musical entertainment adds to the atmosphere party.
July (first weekend):
Feira do Presunto (cured ham) in Monchique – a fair to promote the cured ham that Monchique is renown for as well as a variety of other local produce including honey, sweet treats and cakes, medronho and fruit preserves.
July or August:
Festa de St. António in Marmelete – two days of celebration.
July and August:
‘Summer nights’ – every weekend through July and August Monchique hosts a varied progamme of activities including dancing, concerts, popular music shows and drama.
August (first weekend):
Festa de São Romão in Alferce. Enjoyment and music in the evenings, with a Mass and a procession through the streets on the Sunday.
September (first Sunday):
The annual fair in Marmelete.
September (first weekend) in Largo dos Chorões, Monchique:
Feira de Artesanato “Artechique” which includes various demonstrations of traditional skills such as weaving, basket making and ceramics by skilled craftspeople from the locality.
October (last weekend):
The Monchique annual fair.
October or November:
Raid BTT – mountain bike ride through the Serra de Monchique, normally more than one hundred cyclists from all over Portugal gather for this outdoor event.
November:
Passeio Time Trial of Serra de Monchique Rota da Castanha which is organised by the Monchique Montanha Club motorcyclists and quads bikers come from far afield to ride through the Serra de Monchique.
November:
Rally e Casinos do Algarve with a stage around the Monchique countryside.
November 1st:
Festa da Castanha/Magusto (Chestnut festival) in Alferce and Marmelete
