According to José Faísca, commander of the Loulé fire brigade: “the intention is to create conditions for Loulé to have permanent aircraft for security, protection and rescue operations.”
A new building will be constructed at the site for staff who provide support to the heliport for the protection and rescue operations, namely the emergency medical helicopter which has a 24 hour team.
He added: “rooms will be created for staff to work and bedrooms for them to rest as they have to be here for 24 hours a day. As such, the creation of this infra-structure will guarantee that staff can stay because at the moment they are in temporary accommodation, which doesn’t have the minimum conditions acceptable.”
